THIRTEEN
Josiah
The end of the month was coming, so I was stuck at one of the centers with my mother going over our expenses and getting payroll ready to pay our employees. With so many locations and a lot on my plate, I still took the time to do everything myself. I liked to be aware of everything going on with my businesses, so I dedicated a few days a week to keep everything in order.
Just as I was wrapping up payroll to move onto the next task, there was a knock on my office door. âCome in,â I announced to whoever was on the other side.
The daycare center receptionist emerged with a phone in her hand and her brows raised. My hand automatically went to my sweatpants pocket.
âYou left this out on my desk,â Tamika said, with a smile that reached her eyes, delighted to have a reason to come to my office. Since she got hired, sheâd been subtly throwing herself at me. Even after I politely told her I wasnât interested and didnât sleep with my employees she would shoot her shots in little ways. There were a few times I had to check her, like coming to work in shirts that were cut too low or skintight leggings. I was running a daycare, so there wasnât any real dress code, however I never expected my employees to come in looking like an Instagram model.
âThe way itâs been blowing up I figured you would've known you didnât have it. It seemed like you had a few important phone calls.â
My mind instantly went to Hadeya. Although she didn't have a phone, I had hoped that she would hit me up. I was ready to buy her a phone and drop it off just so I could hear her voice.
âThank you,â I replied, accepting my phone and unlocking it so I could survey the missed calls. I sighed heavily when I saw a number that wasnât saved. It couldnât have been anyone but Precious.
After showing up to my motherâs house acting like a fool, I put her on the block list. Iâd assumed she'd take the hint that there was no way in the world I would even consider getting back with her, but she didnât. Her mindset was all fucked up if she thought it was okay for a nigga to eat her pussy. The shit was embarrassing as fuck to be attached to a woman that lacked morals and values.
âCan I help you with anything else?â I asked, when I noticed Tamika was still standing in front of my desk.
âI wanted to ask if you and Precious were still together. Sheâs been calling the job non-stop asking for you.â
âAnd what did you tell her?â
âThe truth. Youâre not really here often.â
âOkay. Thank you.â
âYou know, if you need someone to talk to, I'm here. I understand you donât want to explore a romantic relationship with me, but there's nothing wrong with us being friends.â
I took my eyes away from the Mac screen and placed them on Tamika.
